3. Advanced "Fixed" – Calibration and Mods (No Manual Required? Wrong)

For a truly fixed PST 52A, move beyond the original manual:

Base Plate Trueing: The manual tells you how to bevel. It doesn't tell you that after 15 years, the die-cast base plate warps. "Fixed" means removing the rubber insert, placing the saw upside down on a surface plate (or glass), and lapping the base with 220-grit wet/dry paper until wobble disappears.
Dust Extraction Fix: The PST 52A has a 19mm dust port. Originally for the Bosch GAS 15. You can "fix" this by 3D-printing an adapter to 35mm or simply wrapping electrical tape around a modern universal vacuum nozzle. Not in the manual.
LED Retrofit: No original lighting. A deep fix: install a 12V COB LED strip inside the gear housing, wired to the trigger output (after the speed controller). Polarity-sensitive – requires a bridge rectifier if using AC. The manual's wiring diagram (simple series) is useless here; you need a basic understanding of triac-based speed control.

Problem 3: Variable speed erratic or stuck on max

DIY Fix:

Open the handle half-shells (manual warns: disconnect power for 30 minutes – capacitors hold charge).
Locate the speed-PCB (it is green, about 3 cm × 4 cm).
Spray electrical contact cleaner into the trigger mechanism while pulling the trigger repeatedly.
If that fails, desolder the triac (BT136-600E) and replace. The fixed manual provides the exact component rating (600V, 16A).

Many DIYers incorrectly replace the entire trigger assembly ($40 part), but simply resoldering cold joints on the PCB fixes the issue 70% of the time.

First Impressions & Build Quality

The Bosch PST 52A is a classic green (homeowner-grade) jigsaw, but don’t let the color fool you — it’s built much tougher than modern entry-level saws. 4.1 Rectifying the Base Plate (Fixing "The Skew")

If your cuts are unintentionally beveled, the base plate is likely out of alignment.

Access: Loosen the set screw (usually located on the back or side of the base plate neck).
Adjustment: Pivot the base plate to the desired angle (usually 0° for straight cuts).
The Fix: Use a set square against the flat side of the blade and the flat surface of the base plate. Adjust until a 90° angle is achieved perfectly.
Locking: Retighten the screw. Check again, as tightening can sometimes shift the plate.
