The EN 10204:2004 standard is a global benchmark for material traceability, defining four types of inspection documents supplied to purchasers of metallic products. It ensures that materials like steel plates, bars, and forgings comply with technical delivery conditions. Hierarchy of Certification Types
The standard categorizes documents based on the level of inspection and the independence of the authorized representative.

The EN 10204 standard is the international benchmark for certifying the quality and traceability of metallic products, including hot-rolled steel. It specifies the types of inspection documents a manufacturer must provide to prove that a delivery meets the customer's specific order requirements. Core Certificate Types (EN 10204:2004)
The current 2004 version of the standard simplified the requirements into four main document types: The EN 10204:2004 standard is a global benchmark
When a customer asks for an EN 10204 PDF for a hot product, the document must reflect properties that are unique to hot rolling or hot forming.
While EN 10204 does not require reporting the rolling or forming temperature, many reputable mills include "Final hot rolling temperature" or "Solution annealing temperature" in the remarks section of the PDF. C (Carbon): ≤ 0.22% (Increases strength
For certain hot products (e.g., hot-rolled free-cutting steels, case-hardening steels), EN 10204 certificate may include grain size rating (ASTM) or inclusion rating – critical for downstream heat treatment.
These are the most requested documents in the industry. They require the product to undergo specific testing, and the results must be traced to the specific delivery.
Some suppliers will send a Type 2.2 PDF (no inspector signature) and call it a "certificate." For hot-rolled critical applications, this fails audits. Insist on 3.1.
