The proliferation of specialized image formats in scientific and industrial imaging—such as the IS2 format used in certain infrared (IR) cameras—poses challenges for data sharing, archiving, and visualization. IS2 files typically store not only visualizable thermal data but also radiometric calibration parameters, temperature matrices, and metadata. This paper introduces a new IS2-to-JPG converter designed to extract, normalize, and convert IS2 infrared data into standard JPEG images while preserving perceptual quality and optionally embedding temperature scale information. The proposed converter employs a three-stage pipeline: metadata parsing, radiometric-to-visual mapping, and lossy compression optimization. Experimental results on a dataset of 500 IS2 samples show that the converter achieves 94% structural similarity (SSIM) with manufacturer’s proprietary software output and reduces average file size from 12.4 MB to 0.31 MB.
