The Clues & The Q-like Gadgets
Bough and English discover that the thief used a French-made explosive. Their investigation leads them to Sauvage’s château in France. Before leaving, English visits MI7’s gadget master (a nod to Q from James Bond), receiving absurd equipment:

• A “simple” explosive chewing gum.
• A fake finger with a hidden dart gun.
• A car with “20,000 volts” in the door handles and an ejector seat.

The Seduction of Lorna Campbell
In France, English meets Lorna Campbell (Natalie Imbruglia), a beautiful and sharp Interpol agent who is also investigating Sauvage. English, convinced she is a double agent (or just attracted to her), keeps her close. Their interactions are full of misunderstandings—English mistakes her subtle clues for romantic advances, leading to classic Atkinson physical comedy.

Sauvage’s True Plan
It’s revealed that Sauvage is not just a jewel thief. He is the heir to a minor French dukedom but has a much bigger scheme:

1. He has secretly filmed the British Royal Family in a compromising position (via a hidden camera in a nurse’s watch).
2. He will use this footage to blackmail them into abdicating.
3. Since Sauvage is distantly related to the Royal Family, he becomes the next in line for the throne of England.
4. His plan: become King, turn all of Britain into a giant prison colony (he owns a prison construction company), and make everyone wear matching gray uniforms.

The Setback – English Gets Fired
English tries to infiltrate Sauvage’s mansion but is captured easily. Sauvage shows English the incriminating video and reveals that Lorna is actually an MI7 agent (not Interpol). English escapes using the explosive chewing gum (which nearly kills him) and returns to London, only to be fired by Pegasus for incompetence.

The Coronation Coup
Sauvage blackmails the Royals. They abdicate. Sauvage is crowned King of England. Britain is now under his dictatorship. Prison uniforms become mandatory. English, now unemployed, watches the coronation on TV at a cheap hotel.

The Final Assault – One Bumbling Man vs. An Army
With Bough’s help (and a leftover gadget from MI7), English crashes Sauvage’s coronation procession. The final action sequence includes:

• English accidentally driving his car into a fountain.
• Using the ejector seat to launch himself into the coronation hall.
• A sword fight with Sauvage (more clumsy than epic).
• English darts Sauvage with the fake-finger gun just as Sauvage is about to be crowned with St. Edward’s Crown.

Climax – The Crown Falls
Sauvage is knocked out. But in the chaos, the Crown rolls off the cushion. English dives to save it, slides across the floor, and catches it at the last second. The Archbishop declares, “Then by the power vested in me, I pronounce you… King?” English quickly hands the crown to the rightful heir (a minor royal child), saving the monarchy.

Ending – The Reluctant Hero
English is reinstated and awarded by the grateful Royal Family. He is knighted: Sir Johnny English. Lorna, impressed by his heart if not his skill, gives him a kiss. As he walks away to his next mission, Bough asks, “What now, Sir Johnny?” English replies, “The world, Bough. The world.” He then gets into his invisible car… which is immediately hit by a bus.

Post-Credits Scene (BluRay version includes)
English attempts to write his memoirs on a tape recorder, but his cat walks over the controls, erasing it all. He blames Bough.
