• Back up your codeplug first. Before writing any new config, read the radio and save as "original_backup.kpg". This is your lifeline.
• Use a Windows 10 LTSC virtual machine. This environment is stripped-down and perfect for legacy or repack software.
• Check the cable. 70% of "software won't connect" errors are actually faulty clone cables. Measure continuity between pin 4 (GND) and pin 1 (TX) of the KPG-46U.
• Firmware version matters. KPG124D v2.20+ requires radio firmware version 2.10+. A repack cannot magically fix firmware mismatch.
