When I first started trying to “get healthy,” every article showed a thin white woman in matching leggings, holding green juice. The message was clear: wellness is aesthetic.
But here’s what they don’t tell you.
You can have high cholesterol and still eat cake. You can have chronic pain and still call a 5-min stretch a workout. You can be in a larger body and run a marathon—or never run at all.
Body positive wellness separates health behaviors from body size. You can eat a vegetable because it gives you energy, not because you’re trying to shrink. You can go to therapy for stress without being told “just lose weight.”
So if you’ve been waiting to feel worthy of wellness until you’re smaller—stop. You’re allowed to take up space and take care of yourself. Right now. Just as you are.
