That’s when he found it. A shadowy forum post from 2021, buried under three layers of dead links. The file name was ominous: Redmi_Note_8_AIO_Tool_v3.7_Cracked.exe

The description promised the impossible: "Unlock bootloader instantly. Remove hot. Bypass 168h. No wait."

Alex ignored every warning instinct. He disabled his antivirus—rule number one of bad decisions—and ran the exe.

The AIO Tool GUI popped up. It was ugly. Neon green text on a black background, like a hacker movie from 2005. But under "Bootloader Actions," there was a button that shouldn't exist:

[FORCE UNLOCK - REMOVE HOT]

His mouse hovered. The tooltip read: "Removes Xiaomi's anti-rollback and 168-hour hot status. Use at own risk. Phone may catch fire. Literally."

Alex laughed nervously. "May catch fire." A joke. Right?

He clicked.

For a second, nothing happened. Then the phone vibrated—hard, like a trapped insect. The screen flickered purple, then white, then displayed a line of text Alex had never seen before:

"Engineering mode. Hot removed. Welcome to the wild."

The bootloader was unlocked. No wait. No request. No permission from Xiaomi. It was just… open.

"YES!" Alex punched the air.

But the phone was hot. Not warm—hot. The metal frame burned his fingertips. He set it down quickly. The back glass was making a faint ticking sound, like a cooling engine—or a bomb.

He glanced at the AIO Tool window. A new message appeared:

"Hot removed. Thermal fuse bypassed. Battery temp: 89°C."

89 degrees. Lithium-ion batteries vent at 80. They explode at 100.

"No, no, no—" Alex scrambled to unplug the USB cable. But the phone wasn't charging anymore. It was running on its own. The screen dimmed, then brightened, cycling through colors. The ticking grew louder.

The AIO Tool flashed one last line:

"Unlock successful. Remove hot successful. Phone will now self-terminate in 10 seconds."

Alex grabbed the phone by the edge—too hot, like grabbing a pan from the oven—and threw it out his second-floor window. It landed in the apartment complex's empty swimming pool.

Pop.

Not an explosion. A soft, wet pop. Then a wisp of blue smoke rose from the cracked concrete below.

The Redmi Note 8 was dead. The bootloader was unlocked, technically. But there was no phone left to use it on.

Alex stared at the AIO Tool window. It closed itself. The .exe vanished from his downloads folder. The only thing left was a text file on his desktop, named README_DONT.txt.

He opened it.

One sentence: "Hot removed means we removed the limit. Not the heat. Never the heat."

Alex closed his laptop, took a deep breath, and realized he still had no notes for his exam.

He also realized he’d just learned a very expensive lesson: when a tool promises to remove hot, it’s not talking about the waiting period.
