Season 1 adapts Herron’s first novel, Slow Horses. The plot begins with a spectacular failure: promising young agent River Cartwright (Jack Lowden) botches a live-fire training exercise at Heathrow, resulting in a simulated explosion that makes the media. His punishment? Exile to Slough House.

His boss is Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman), a genius of cynicism who appears to be a flatulent, booze-soaked slob but possesses a razor-sharp tactical mind. When a young Pakistani student is kidnapped by a far-right group threatening a public beheading, the official service (MI5) seems incompetent. It falls to the Slow Horses to prove that even the rejects have teeth.
