Let’s focus on the -Nergal- aspect, as it is the centerpiece of the v1.1 Beta.
In the original 1.0 release, Nergal was a generic "big bad"—a hulking, burning entity that chased you through the final level. It was serviceable but forgettable. Version 1.1 Beta completely rewrites his presence. Urban Demons -v1.1 Beta- -Nergal- -Completed-
Here, Nergal is voiced (using heavily edited Russian throat singing samples) and speaks directly to the player through the fourth wall. He doesn’t just chase you; he taunts you.
Critics have called the -Nergal- route "the most effective use of an unkillable stalker enemy since Alien: Isolation." Development Report: Urban Demons -v1
As with most cult horror games, the developer has disappeared. The official Itch.io page was deleted in 2023, and the GameJolt page now redirects to a 404 error. @Rottweiler_Noise’s Twitter has been inactive for 18 months.
However, due to the -Completed- tag, archival groups have preserved this version. You can find the .zip file (hash-checked for authenticity) on the Internet Archive under the keyword "Urban Demons v1.1 Beta Nergal Complete." The Library Scene: When you try to read
A Warning to Players: Do not run the executable UD_Launcher.exe directly. The game has a known issue where it attempts to write a .txt file to your C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts folder as a meta-joke about Nergal "infecting your machine." While harmless in v1.1 (the path is wrong by design), antivirus software will flag it. Run the Nergal_Safe.exe launcher included in the post-v1.1 hotfix folder.
The subtitle -Nergal- is the star of this release. In Mesopotamian mythology, Nergal is a deity of war, pestilence, and the underworld. In the context of Urban Demons, Nergal is not a character you date; he is a force of nature you either submit to or try to manipulate.
While other branches of Urban Demons focus on romance, gritty realism, or financial domination, the "Nergal" branch is pure horror. It introduces a secretive cult operating within the city’s abandoned subway tunnels. The protagonist, depending on choices made in the first ten days, can discover the "Cult of the Burning Sun," leading to an exclusive storyline involving ritualistic corruption, body modification, and a complete overhaul of the player’s morality stat.
